Universities in Singapore offer many scholarships for international students. These scholarships can help you with your tuition fees and also support you on the living expenses while your studies.

In Singapore, public universities offer more options for scholarships compared with private institutions. Courses which can entitle scholarships are widely distributed to varies undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

The deadline for applying a university scholarship is usually cut off several months before the course commencement date. You should apply for a course at the university before you apply for scholarships from them.

Here are the steps to apply for a scholarship:

  • Search the course and university you preferred
  • While you have your courses and universities shortlisted, search the scholarship information webpages for your preferred university
  • Follow the scholarship application instructions to send in the application

In Singapore, many of scholarships are merit-based, sometimes it is quite competitive and has limited places. Some of the scholarships are for those financial needed students, it requires students to demonstrated financial hardship in the family. Therefore, you should have a deep understanding of the scholarship you apply for.

Things You Need to Keep in Mind

While you are researching university scholarships, there are some things you should keep in mind:

  • Different universities and organizations offer different type of scholarships, the application deadlines are also different. You should start early so that you will not miss out any scholarship opportunity.
  • The application deadline for a scholarship is commonly a few months early before the university course commencement date. Some of the highly competitive scholarships application will even be closed a year before. So that you should start your research early.
  • You can only apply for the scholarship either you are applying for the course, or you have applied for the course.
  • In most of the cases, scholarships applications will evaluation your academic performance.

Scholarship Options for International Students in Singapore

The Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore offers Tuition Grant for international students who study at local public universities. Under this scheme, international students will be required to work in Singapore-registered companies for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.

Apart from that, universities in Singapore also offers a wide range of scholarships for international students. Those scholarships are coming from government sectors, local or international organizations and universities itself.

ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Eligible Student: Citizens of an ASEAN* member country (excluding Singapore)

Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship

  • Scholarship Benefits: Tuition fees; S$6,500 annual living allowance; S$200 one-time settling-in allowance; annual accommodation allowance; one return airfare
  • Eligible Student: Citizens of 15 Asia Pacific economies*
  • Course: Undergraduate degree programme

NTU-University Scholars Programme (NTU-USP) Scholarship

  • Scholarship Benefits: Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant​); S$6,500 annual living allowance; S$200 one-time settling-in allowance; up to S$2,000 annual accommodation allowance; S$1,750 (one-off) computer allowance; one return airfare; S$5,000 travel grant for an overseas study/attachment programme; overseas benefits

Nanyang Scholarship (CN Yang Scholars Programme)

Curtin Singapore Merit Scholarship

  • Scholarship Benefits: 25% Tuition fee scholarship for 200 credits (equivalent to one academic year)
