      To apply for UK Study Visa also known as the Tier 4 (General) Student Visa, you will need to prove your knowledge of English by providing an IELTS.

      But you can be exempt from providing IELTS if you are an international student who:

      • Coming from inside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland which do not need a student visa to study in the UK.
      • Coming to the UK to learn English for less than 11 months.
      • Under 18-years old, coming to the UK on a Tier 4 Child Student Visa.
      • Studied for at least 6 months in the UK in the past 2 years.
      • Coming from an English-speaking country outside the EU.

      Hi Nandida, by taking a university foundation year, you need to study just 1 year before entering university. The choice of universities is limited, but your university place is guaranteed as long as you passed the foundation year.

      By taking the sixth form, you will need to study about 2 years before you are eligible to enter university. You will have more choice of universities, but it will be quite competitive for the university’s place.

      For students applying to universities after 10th, they will need to take a year of foundation course before they enter university.
      The foundation course usually starts in September (majority) and January, students should prepare the application of admissions at least 3-4 month before the course start.

      In general, government scholarship for international students taking MBBS is very limited. Most of them have very strict eligibility criteria and only for postgraduate level and above.

      Yes, Indian student with 11th qualification is able to enrol to UK institutions for pre-university (foundation) program. This pre-university (foundation) program is equivalent to a year 12 qualification and the program duration is about 8-10 months.

      The minimum academic entry requirement to a program leading to a Bachelor of Medicine in the UK is Completion of Year 11 with a minimum 65% (for CBSE Qualification). The study pathway will be like:
      11th (in India) => 1 year Foundation Program (in the UK) => 5 years Bachelor of Medicine (in the UK)
      Tuition Fees:
      Foundation Program: £18,000 – £19,000 (per year)
      Bachelor of Medicine: £33,000 – £35,000 (per year, *the tuition fees for medicine related programs usually higher than other programs)
      Living Cost (including accommodation):
      London Areas: £1,334 * 12months = £16,008 (per year)
      Outside of London Areas: £1,023 * 12months = £12,276 (per year)

          Student can choose to enrol on a foundation program with completion of IGCSE qualification.
          The minimum requirements are usually 5 subjects including relevant subjects, grades C or above. The English language requirement is required (Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0) if student need a student visa to study in the UK.
          The student may need to meet additional requirements depending on the progression degree such as Biology, Dental Surgery etc.

          From the university point of view, the student’s nationality does not prove anything about their English language standard.
          You don’t need IELTS for visa purpose, but depending on the individual institution entry requirements, you may need to take IELTS to meet their language requirement.

      1. The foundation program in the UK usually have two intakes which are September and Jan, you can choose whichever intake suits you the best. To apply for foundation programs you should send in the application at least 3 to 4 months before the course start date.
      2. You do not need to apply through UCAS for foundation programs in the UK.
      3. Depending on the individual universities, Medicine degrees usually require prior study of 2 to 3 science subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Maths or Physics.

      A sufficient TOEFL result is good for show colleges or universities you have met their language requirement. But you will still need to provide sufficient IELTS for UKVI result for student visa purpose if you want to take university foundation programs (study in the UK after the 10th).

      It depends on your son’s current academic circumstances such as what curriculum he is currently taking, and which curriculum suits him the best.
      as he is a UK citizen, coming to the UK he can be enrolled in a public school and most probably will be taking General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) for his secondary education. This is quite different from the CBSE or ICSE or State Board Qualifications.

      As the Education System in the UK and India have quite a significant difference, if your son enrols on a year 10 program in the UK, it is likely he will be enrolled on a 1-2 years GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) preparation program. Even the ICSE Board and the UK GCSE are both thought in the English language, the academic syllabus has a huge difference.

      We think, to complete the minimum of year 10 in India might work best for the students.

    My older daughter will be doing her Undergraduate in Economics starting this year in the UK.
    My younger daughter will be taking her IGCSE Xth exams in 2021-22 and 2022, i want her to do her 11th & 12th in the UK, preferably somewhere close to University of Warwick as my Wife can take a home there and both daughters can study in the UK over the next 2-3 years.

      Hi Divya,

      Student can choose to enrol on a foundation program with the completion of the 11th CBSE qualification. He also needs to meet the English language requirement is required (Academic IELTS for UKVI: minimum 5.0) if he needs a student visa to study in the UK.

      As the foundation programs in the UK usually have two intakes per year, besides September intake the student also has an option to enrol on January intake.

      University foundation programs usually require the student have a minimum IELTS 5 or 5.5 IELTS (5.0 in all bands). For Bachelor’s Degree, students usually need to have a minimum IELTS 6 or 6.5 IELTS (6.0 in all bands)

      Having a sufficient IELTS result only shows you have met the English language requirements set by universities, it does not grant you any immigration status in the UK or in any other country. Apart from meeting the English language requirements, the student still needs a sufficient academic result to meet the Academic Requirements.

    My son is in his 11th year in a Dubai schools following iGCSE curriculum — i.e. he is in his GCSE year (board exams or O level as it used to be called. He should be done by June 2022 and we are contemplating getting him into Oxford or Cambridge based on his subjects of interest (Physics & Economics apart from Maths) next year itself to continue his AS level and A levels (12th & 13th) in the UK.
